Social Responsibility

Washington Square is proud to be a community partner. We strive to meet community challenges through a combination of employee volunteerism, financial support, in-kind donations and partnerships with non-profit organizations which have missions consistent with our vision and values.

Community Partnerships

Washington Square supports our community in many ways, including:

  • Collecting over 4,000 gifts valued at over $100,000 each holiday season through the Sharing Tree. Coordinated by Clipped Wings, the Sharing Tree benefits over 10 local non-profit agencies
  • Washington Square retailers donate the fixingings for a Thanksgiving dinner to 150 families in need in the local community each year
  •  Hosting K103’s Make-A-Wish® Radiothon in 2009 resulting in the Foundation’s ability to grant more than 13 local children’s wishes
  • Helping to raise over $450,000 for Doernbecher’s Children Hospital in 2008 by hosting Hunt for a Cure Radio-a-thon
  • Hosting two American Red Cross blood drives annually, resulting in over 50 pints in blood donations
  • Organizing a Dress for Success clothing drive in 2009 and assembling 500 “Interview Survival Kits” to benefit the organization’s clients
  • Creating 500 “wellness bags”  to support local women facing cancer treatment in partnership with Breast Friends and Providence Cancer Center in 2008
  • Wrapping and donating 500 inspirational holiday gifts to clients of the Domestic Violence Resource Center in 2008
  • Ongoing sponsorship and support of Komen Portland Race for the Cure®
  • Providing a healthy environment for hundreds of local residents to participate in mall walking programs
  • Thousands of dollars in gift card donations to local programs, including the Beaverton Arts Commission, Tigard School Foundation, Medical Teams International, Relay for Life, Bradley Angle House, American Diabetes Association, Big Brothers Big Sister and Komen Portland Race for the Cure®
  • In-kind donation of space to local organizations such as Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Oregon the Washington County Historical Society, Beaverton School District, American Red Cross and local Public Works agencies
  • Washington Square employees actively volunteer at many local organizations including Caring Community Clothes Closet, Tualatin School House Pantry, Medical Teams International, Good Neighbor House and Loaves & Fishes.

Contribution Requests

Each year, Washington Square will contribute a preset amount of funds in the form of Gift Cards, merchandise and use of property to a diverse group of organizations. Hundreds of requests are anticipated each year. Donation recipients may include civil organizations' education programs; food banks; foundations; hospitals and healthcare organizations; youth programs; performing arts and museums and many more. Each request is reviewed carefully, however, not all requests can be granted.
